Thursday 30th March marks Jon ‘Bones’ Jones first day of official freedom as the former UFC champion has now completed his eighteen month probation for fleeing the scene of a car accident.
Jones crashed his Lexus into another driver back in 2015 and was found guilty of leaving the scene of an accident and given an 18 month probationary sentence, with 72 public appearances directed at teaching kids the importance of good decision making mitigating the length of his probation.
The Light heavyweight fighter has been through a testing couple of years – although many of his troubles have been self-inflicted – and is still serving a suspension from competition after having failed a PED test last summer for having metabolites of clomiphene and letrozole in his system. Jones still maintains the result was due to ‘dodgy dick pills’, but his suspension was upheld by USADA and will run until July 6th 2017.
He hasn’t sat idle though, and has kept the ring-rust at bay by competing in high profile grappling competitions – notably submitting Dan Henderson. With the UFC LHW strap under contest this weekend, it will be interesting to see who will be holding the belt come July, when ‘Bones’ returns to the cage…
