Lesnar Making a Shock return to MMA

Brock Lesnar is set to make a shock return to the MMA scene at in Las Vegas on July 9.

Four years on from the WWE superstar’s last octagon appearance, the former heavyweight champion will make a sensational return.

In between his spells as a professional wrestler, Lesnar was one of the biggest pay-per-view stars in the history of the , including several promotion records in his MMA career.

During his last stint in MMA from 2008 to 2011, he fought on eight occasions, winning five and losing three.

However, his UFC career looked to be over after he lost his last two bouts to and Alistair Overeem, both by TKO.

Prior to that, the South Dakota fighter claimed the heavyweight title by beating Randy Couture in just his fourth fight, before defending the belt with a victory over at UFC 100 in 2009, a show that set promotional records.

A return seemed improbable after it was revealed that the end of Lesnar’s MMA career was blighted by diverticulitis that subsequently forced him to undergo surgery.

After retiring from UFC in 2011, he returned to the WWE scene a year later, although he stated that he was to continue training in striking and .

Last year saw Lesnar come close to a UFC return, but he instead opted to sign back up with WWE, claiming that his MMA career is over.

However, fans were left stunned at UFC 199 in California this weekend as the organisation revealed a promotional video for UFC 200 which featured the former WWE superstar at the end.

Lesnar, who will be 39 next month, is still to announce who he will be fighting in Las Vegas.

Later in the evening, the WWE announced that Lesnar will still take part in their SummerSlam promotion in August.
